Spring is a time of renewal and growth! Flowers start blooming, the weather warms up, and it’s a perfect time to reflect on our habits to make positive changes in our lives. Just like we spring clean our homes, we can spring clean our habits and spring clean our lives. So whether you’re looking to improve your physical health, mental wellbeing or simply want to feel more productive and energized, a spring habit reset can be just what you need to kickstart your goals and feel your best.

Keep reading as we share some incredible spring wellness tips that are going to help you start this new season with more energy. But first, what are habits and why are they so important to our lives?

What are our habits?

Habits are the building blocks of our daily lives. They help shape our routines, behaviors and outcomes in life. But really, our habits help shape who we are. Whether good or bad, habits have a powerful impact on our lives.

Many of our decisions and actions are made without much conscious thought, as they have been so deeply ingrained in the habits that we follow, without even realizing it! Therefore, understanding the power of habits, and how they shape our lives can be one of the most powerful tools for personal growth and success.

The thing with habits… they’re automatic. Our brains are wired to form habits as a way to conserve energy. By repeating certain behaviors or routines, our brains can create neural pathways that make those behaviors easier and more automatic over time.

As a result, habits can be incredibly powerful tools for achieving our goals or making positive changes in our lives. And what better time to bring positive change in your life than spring?! Use this season of growth to incorporate clean habits and wellness tips into your daily routine.

If you haven’t already, we highly recommend reading Atomic Habits by James Clear.

Today we’re going to explore spring habits that are going to help you feel a sense of renewal and rejuvenation to match with this season of new beginnings. You may even find that resolutions you set in the springtime are easier to accomplish than the ones you set in the cold (and dark) of winter.

This spring we want to invite you to have a period of reflection to assess and adjust your habits. You can use our free habit tracker to help you form new habits that will see you through the rest of the year. Download our free habit tracker here.

Steps to Spring Clean Your Life & Have a Spring Habit Reset

Assess your current habits and goals

Remember those pesky new years resolutions you set a couple of months ago? It’s time to assess them! But more importantly we’re actually going to assess the habits that help us accomplish our goals.

Step one in any spring habit reset is to assess what you need and what you don’t need. What are the habits that are helping you and which ones might be hindering you? Make a list of both positive and negative habits, and try to be as honest and thorough as possible. You don’t have to show this to anyone, so just be honest with yourself.

Identify areas for improvement

Once you have your list of habits, identify the ones that you want to change and improve on. Besides just thinking about good and bad habits, think about the habits that help you become the person that you want to be. Whether you want to be an athlete, a good cook or a morning person — what habits are helping you become that person?

This could be anything from eating healthier, exercising more, getting more or better sleep to reducing screen time. (Need to break up with your phone this spring? Create a plan

Creating a plan can help you stick to your spring habit reset and incorporate some of these spring wellness tips! Once you have an idea of what habits are good for you, and which ones are bad for you, make a plan to help you get where you want to be. If you want to eat healthier, you can start incorporating one more veggie onto your plate. If you want to wake up earlier, start going to bed a bit earlier each night.

Spring Clean Your Habits

Now let’s talk about some spring wellness tips to incorporate while you’re spring cleaning your life. In other words, let’s spring clean your habits and bring in some new energy and renewal for life.

Eating in season fruits and vegetables

There’s no better time than spring to start incorporating healthier fruits and vegetables into your meals. During spring some of our favorite fruits and vegetables like avocados, mushrooms, bell peppers, zucchini, cherries, berries and apples come into season.

Stay hydrated

As the weather warms up you’re likely going to be spending more time outdoors and more time moving your body (thus sweating more). Even mild dehydration can cause brain fog, fatigue and frustration, so make sure you drink enough water and eat foods that are rich in water (cucumber, watermelon, soups).

If you’re feeling dehydrated, adding pink Himalayan salt can also help restore electrolytes.

In this recent post we shared an incredible way to get hydrated in the morning with super water! Read it next.

Soak up the sun

Take advantage of the sun being out. We recommend starting every day with sunshine. Our bodies are wired to sync up with the sun. Our brains naturally produce melatonin when the sun goes down, and soaking up the sun when it comes up can have positive effects on our sleep and serotonin levels. sunlight’s vitamin D is vital for fighting fatigue and boosting your mental health.

We’ve learned recently that the combination of UV and infrared light is at an ideal balance between 8am and 10am. During this time, the sun has the most concentrated healing properties, and encourages our bodies to release more endorphins.

Reset your sleeping habits

A long dark winter can mess with our sleeping cycles. You can use spring as a chance to reset your sleeping habits. There are a lot of things you can do to help yourself sleep better at night — but one of the most important things is putting your phone (and all screens) away a couple of hours before it’s time to go to bed.

Regular physical activity also helps to promote better sleep, so incorporating just 30 minutes of movement into your daily routine can help you sleep better at night.

And make sure that you quit drinking caffeine in the afternoons for better sleep as caffeine has a half life of 6 hours, which means it takes 6 hours for the caffeine to be fully absorbed by your body. If you drink coffee as late as 3pm it can still be in your body when you start to wind down for the day.

Schedule time for yourself

Why not schedule some time with yourself this spring? We’re big advocates for spending time alone — and doing things by yourself that might be out of your comfort zone. And we’re also huge fans of solo dates. In fact, we’ve also got an entire guide to dating yourself here.

Scheduling time for yourself can be simply allowing yourself time to do something you love. Whether that’s taking a walk with a podcast on or reading in the bath. You truly cannot pour from an empty cup, so if you aren’t taking care of yourself, how are you going to take care of the people and things around you? This spring is the perfect time to put some “you time” on the habit tracker.

Spring Clean your environment

Spring cleaning has become a tradition, but for some it can feel like another overwhelming chore on the to do list. Take the pressure out of spring cleaning by breaking it down into small, doable chunks. You can start simple, just spring clean your desk. By spring cleaning your desk you’ll also bring more productivity back into your work day. By the way, it’s also important to declutter your mind.

It’s important to set attainable goals and habits, so don’t overcommit yourself to cleaning an entire room each day. Instead, start with a drawer in your kitchen or bathroom that needs reorganizing. From there, move onto cleaning out your fridge, your shoe collection, or old makeup that you don’t use anymore.

Remember, a spring habit reset isn’t about perfection, but instead, about progress. Small changes over time can lead to big results, hence why habits are so important for the changes we want to make overall in our lives. This spring, we invite you to do a spring habit reset, and focus on making sustainable changes that will improve your wellbeing in the long run.

With intentionality and effort, you can use this beautiful season of growth and renewal to create habits that will serve you well throughout the year.
